What signs do I need for my wedding?
"I know I need signs, but I'm not sure what I need" — we hear this comment A LOT, and for good reason! Although every wedding will vary depending on things like: guest count, venue layout, and budget, this quick guide will help you consider the three main categories every sign falls into.
After reading this, you’ll figure out:
What signs you really need, and which you can do without
Signage ideas for each category
Where to allot your budget
All of your wedding signage can be summed up by the acronym “DAI.”
“DAI” stands for: Directions, Ambiance, and Information.
Let’s talk about our first category…
Directions
Have you ever arrived at a wedding venue only to end up getting lost on your way in? Directional signs will ensure your guests will be in the right place at the right time.
Examples:
—This way to...
—Wedding this way...
—Lawn games here...
—Reception ahead...
*(…) Indicate direction with an arrow
Ambiance
Here’s where you can really set the tone for your wedding and highlight your love story. Got a favorite quote? Song? Memory? Placing these around the venue will set the mood. Bonus: you can use these as forever keepsakes in your home. If you plan to keep these, forego temporary signs like foamcore, and opt for a sign on acrylic or wood.
Examples:
—Bible Verses
—Vows
—Poems
—Quote
Information
If there’s one area that’s absolutely necessary, it’s information. The preceding categories are flexible and add endless inspiration, but information is key for proper communication for a day with so many moving parts! These signs keep your guests in “happy” seating arrangements, communicate special wedding etiquette, and prevent your uncle’s-stepbrother’s-niece-twice-removed from eating those peanut filled cookies she’d have a deathly allergic reaction to.
Examples:
—Welcome Sign
—Seating Chart
—Unplugged Ceremony
—Cards/Gifts
—Sign our Guestbook
—Photobooth
—Food Labels
Hope this helps you think through your special day and how signage can play a part in it! If you’re feeling the overwhelm, and would love someone to create a custom set of signs that reflect your style and check all the boxes, get in touch and we’ll get it done for you:
